Nyungnä Fasting Retreat
Purifying our obstacles and negative karma by relying upon Buddha Avalokiteshvara.
March, Saturday 20th - Sunday 21st, 6.30am - 5.15pm
On this weekend for two days we engage in our annual Nyungnä Fasting Retreat.
This special fasting and purification retreat is performed in conjunction with prayers and prostrations to 1000-armed Buddha Avalokiteshvara - the Buddha of Compassion.
There are 4 sessions per day, starting with precepts at 6.30am and finishing at around 5.15pm.
On both days we take Buddhist Precepts in the 1st session.
Sessions 2 - 4 on each day are in conjunction with the Prayers to Buddha Avalokiteshvara, including 15 minutes of prostration pratice.
On day 1 we only eat one meal (lunch), drinking is allowed, - until the next morning 6.30am.
On day 2 we engage in total fasting (dry fasting) - i.e. no eating and no drinking until the following morning 7am.
This practice is a very powerful method for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, and for pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and anger. It is also a special method for receiving powerful blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion and bodhichitta.
Note that this retreat can be physically quite strenuous at times, especially towards the end of the second day.
