Refuge Retreat & Refuge Vow Ceremony

sunday 30 april

retreat sessions: 9.30am – 10.45am | 11.30am -12.45noon

refuge vow ceremony: 2pm – 3.30pm

The foundation of the Buddhist way of life is to go for refuge. Buddhism is the practice of Buddha’s teachings, also known as Dharma, which means “protection.” Suffering is a state of mind, and Buddha’s teachings explain how to overcome states of mind that cause suffering. Through receiving Buddha’s blessings and the help and support of Sangha, our pure spiritual friends, we will have all the support we need to progress in our practice of Dharma. In this way, the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are our real refuge from suffering and problems. Through refuge practice, we can find happiness within and protect ourselves directly from fear, confusion and lack of spiritual direction. Gradually, through following this joyful path, our mind becomes a source of refuge and inspiration for others.

The refuge vow ceremony is optional. This special ceremony includes chanted prayers and allows us to make a personal commitment to maintain a connection with the Three Jewels in our daily life. You are welcome to bring an offering of vegetarian food or flowers to the ceremony.

Guided by Gen Phuntsog, Resident Teacher of KMC Durban.

Everyone is welcome!
