An event every week that begins at 9:00 am on Tuesday, repeating until June 13, 2023
In Buddhism we learn the power of chanted prayers especially those done in a group. These prayers take our mind on a journey of meaning, which if done sincerely can be profoundly transformative. There is one prayer which is very special within our Tradition called The Liberating Prayer. It makes up a part of almost every class, retreat and course run at Kadampa Centres worldwide.
Very soon we all fall in love with the pacifying effect of The Liberating Prayer.
Venerable Geshe-la, who composed the prayer, explained that it is not an ordinary prayer and contains a great depth of meaning which is not initially evident. He further explained that we need a teacher to reveal these deeper meanings to us in order to fully appreciate this prayer.
Before he passed away Venerable Geshe-la gave an oral transmission of these meanings to Gen-la Dekyong and at this year’s International Kadampa Spring Festival Gen-la Dekyong will be sharing this with us. Our Resident Teacher, Gen Jampel, will receive these teachings directly and share them with us in these special classes.
About the Teacher
As the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Centre Durban, Gen Jampel takes joy in helping us discover the innate potential for freedom and peace we carry in our hearts – even in difficult times. An ordained Buddhist monk, he has been practicing Kadampa Buddhism for many years and elucidates the life-changing wisdom of meditation through the lens of everyday life. Loved for his uplifting example and playful humour, he is a relatable teacher and reliable friend to the community.
